Radhanagar Beach is located on Havelock Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is famous for being one of the most beautiful beaches not only in India but also in Asia. Still referred to as Beach No. 7, this stretch of mesmerising white sand and azure waters presents a tranquil getaway from the din and bustle of city life. It received international acclaim when Time Magazine rated it as the 7th best beach in the world for the years 2004 and 2020. It has also been accorded the Blue Flag certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education, Denmark, reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability and cleanliness.
Radhanagar Beach stands as a testimony to the natural beauty and cultural richness of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Lush tropical forests and tranquil surroundings typical of the Andaman Islands surround this small stretch of land. Local culture is attached to nature, and tourists often experience gentle responses from the islanders. The beach was once rated as Asia’s Best Beach by Time Magazine, which underlines its reputation across the globe and lends cultural prestige to an already breathtakingly beautiful place.
Radhanagar Beach is famous for its tremendous sunset scenes. When the sun dives into the horizon, the sky turns into a canvas of kaleidoscopic colours, hence being an apt spot for photography and unwinding. The view of the sun setting over turquoise waters is truly striking and provides an unforgettable experience.
The lagoon of Neil's Cove is tucked into a corner of a deep, heavy forest, located just down the beach from Neil's Cove. This hideaway provides added seclusion and thus is recommended for those who want more personal time with nature in quiet calm. It serves as a very nice location to photograph nature and to spend time in reflection.
The gentle waves and soft, white sands make the beach highly suitable for swimming and sunbathing. The safe zones are patrolled by lifeguards, hence offering a very secure environment for swimmers. The beach also provides facilities such as eco-friendly changing rooms, washrooms, and hammocks for people to lie down and enjoy the scenery around them.
The entry point of the Radhanagar Beach has small shacks serving succulent fruits and snacks. Savor refreshing coconut water to drive away the thirst or have local dishes in any of the several restaurants nearby. Fine dining is possible in resorts at Taj and Barefoot, with their spectacular views.
The most convenient and fastest way to reach Radhanagar Beach is by taking a private cab or auto-rickshaw. The cabs can be booked from Havelock Jetty or from your place of stay. It takes approximately 30 minutes of travel, comfortable and direct to the beach.
Government buses ply regularly from Havelock Jetty up to Radhanagar Beach. Buses are fairly inexpensive, with both A/C and non-A/C services available. Check the schedule upon arrival at the jetty for the latest timings.
A rather more adventurous option is to hire a scooter or bicycle. You can travel around the island at your own pace but will need to take some care, as traffic is heavy at times and many of the roads are of low quality.
The other viable option is shared jeeps, which are more economical and faster than buses. They are available near the jetty. For small groups travelling, it can be a good option.
