Exploring Dhani Nallah Mangrove Walkway: The Veiled Beauty of Middle Andaman

Dhani Nallah Beach, with a five-kilometre stretch of soft brown sand and blue waters, has been considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Middle Andaman Island. It is usually deserted, and this is what provides such a quiet retreat to any visitor. The beach is windy; hence, this might be a good spot for windsurfing. However, there are no proper facilities available as of now; therefore, it is recommended that one carry their equipment if they plan to indulge in the sport. The beach facilities are minimal, with no toilets and no shops; therefore, visitors should equip themselves with all the essential things.

Dhani Nallah, on the fringes of Rangat in Middle Andaman Island, is a place that no one should miss during the Andaman Islands exploration. It lies 20 kilometres away from Rangat and is quite accessible from Andaman Trunk Road (ATR). The Mangrove Walkway is 713 meters long, the longest boardwalk in India, and takes one through a magical journey of mangrove forests.

The mangrove ecosystem is an important habitat, offering a haven for such diverse wildlife as birds, crabs, shrimps, and fish. Shallow waters are an important breeding ground for such marine species and seldom do any crocodiles make it a point of attraction. The educational boards along the boardwalk enhance your experience by providing insight into the ecological significance of mangroves and their role in supporting local wildlife.

Attractions within the Park

It is far from being just a quaint pathway but more so an educational tour into one of the most unique ecosystems in the world. The thick mangroves are home to an enormous variety of species, many of which can hardly find their dwelling in other places. First and foremost, the walkway itself is a main attraction. Very few get the chance to see the flora and fauna of mangroves as close as can be seen from this walkway.

From November to February, the period when the turtles come to nest is a very magical time to visit. During this time, the beach becomes an important nesting site for the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles, which make their laborious way out of the sea up the sandy beach to lay eggs, after which hatchlings emerge and follow their way back to the sea-a truly unforgettable sight. Locals warn tourists not to use flashlights and not to bother turtles in any way.

How to Reach?

Reaching Dhani Nallah is not at all a problem. From Rangat, one can hire a private vehicle to reach the entry point at Betapur, a distance of 20 km. Public buses also ply quite frequently, although the frequency is higher on weekdays. Tourists coming from Port Blair may use the government ferry to Rangat, which takes around five to six hours. Ferries from Havelock or Neil Island also stop at Rangat. Andaman Island Travels in Port Blair can assist you with all travel-related arrangements.

The Dhani Nallah Mangrove Walkway takes visitors to Middle Andaman Island, a haven for nature lovers and adventure-loving tourists alike, and offers tranquil beauty and ecological magic!
