Culture and Heritage

The Natural Rock Formation has been named after the famous Howrah Bridge in Kolkata because of the resemblance it bears to a bridge. It is a Natural Engineering Marvel: The formation of this natural bridge is believed to be formed over thousands of years from dead corals and it is a great example of the marine and geological processes that shape our planet. The local community perceives the formation as something very special and respects its singularity while preserving the natural beauty of the same. This rock formation not only plays a part in the cultural heritage of this island but at the same time, it acts as a symbolic expression to the close intimate relation between nature and time.

Things to Explore

The main attraction is howrah bridge itself, which is a naturally formed coral rock arch. During the low tide one can have a walk over the fully beheaded rocky surface, donned with all kinds of marine life. Colorful corals, starfishes, sea cucumbers, and even small octopuses are seen in the shallow pools formed in the receding tides.

The Natural Rock Formation is excellent for taking photos. Isolated rock formations against the limpid brilliant blue water provide a dramatic backdrop. Shallow pools created by the receding tide provide an ideal opportunity for photography of the marine life and this special rock formation.

Except for the rock formation, the surrounding area is a storehouse of marine biodiversity. The tidal pools are hosts to various species, making it an excellent spot for nature observation and photography.
